Privacy Policy — The Day One Challenge
1. Overview
The Day One Challenge is a 45-day habit-building app that combines daily devotional lessons with reflection questions. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, how it's used, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide:
- Account information (if you create an account): your name and the email address or identifier associated with your sign-in method.
- Reflection answers: your responses to the daily Study / Action / Gratitude questions. These are personal to you.
- Reminder settings: the daily time and time zone you choose so the app can unlock your lesson and send your reminder.
Information collected automatically:
- Progress data: your current day, best day reached, run number, and completion dates, used to run the challenge and its reset rules.
- Push notification token: a device identifier used only to deliver your daily reminder, if you enable notifications.
- Basic technical/diagnostic data: app version, device type, and operating system, used to keep the app working and fix crashes.
We do NOT collect: precise location, contacts, photos, health records, payment card numbers, or advertising identifiers. The app does not show third-party ads.
3. How we use information
We use the information above only to: deliver the daily lesson, cards, and reflection experience; track your progress and apply the challenge rules (including the midnight-cutoff reset); send the daily reminder you scheduled; save and sync your progress and answers to your account (if you signed in); and maintain, secure, and improve the app. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your reflection answers for advertising.
4. How information is stored and shared
Your data is stored on your device and, if you create an account, on our backend (hosted on Amazon Web Services). We share information only with service providers that help operate the app, under agreements that limit their use of it:
- Amazon Web Services — backend hosting, database, and authentication.
- Expo / Apple Push Notification service / Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — to deliver push notifications.
- Apple and Google — for sign-in and app distribution.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the app.
5. The "Evolve" program and external links
The app links to Evolve Mental Health and other resources at evolvepathway.com and related sites. When you follow those links you leave the app and are subject to those services' own privacy policies, not this one.
6. Your choices and rights
- Notifications: turn reminders on or off anytime in your device settings.
- Edit your reminder time: anytime in the app's Profile.
- Access and deletion: delete your account and associated data in-app (Profile → "Delete my account & data"), or contact us at [email protected].
- Depending on where you live (e.g., EEA/UK or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, port, or delete your personal information. To exercise these, contact us at [email protected].
7. Data retention
We keep your account data and reflection answers for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete this data from our active systems, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.
8. Children's privacy
The app is intended for users 13 and older (or the minimum age required in your country). It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including authentication and access controls on our backend — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International users
We operate in the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries with different data-protection laws than yours.
11. Health and medical disclaimer
The app's lessons and neuroscience references are for education and personal growth only. They are not medical or mental-health advice and are not a substitute for professional care. If you are in crisis, contact a licensed professional or your local emergency services.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app.
